The aim of the project is to explore unique bread specialties with plums.

Every nation in Europe has a characteristic type of bread that it is proud of. Many nations have a favorite fruit. For the Serbian people, there is no dilemma. The sacred tree and fruit for “pride” is the plum. The plum was important both in peacetime and in wartime. The Serbs used to say – when there are plums, there is everything! There are few peoples in the world who have incorporated a single fruit tree into their culture, literature, song, proverbs and sayings as the Serbs have dedicated to the plum. .

Bread and fresh or dried plums are traditional ingredients of Serbian cuisine and form one of the foundations of national cuisine. It is quite normal that the Serbian peasant found a way to combine these two special nutritious specialties.

The first such bread in the military and hajduk tradition of the Serbian people is bread with dried plums and a favorite sweet popularly called – šljivko.

The author of the project is Dimitrije Vujadinović, and the collaborators are colonel prof. dr Branko Tešanović, colonel Neđejko Jokić, prof. dr Miladin Ševarlić, as well as numerous housewives from Serbian villages.
