VODENICE – WATER-MILLS

Once upon a time when people decided to settle on Mt. Jadovo, a fairy appeared one morning and asked: Do you want me to give you water or happiness? Upon reflection, the villagers replied: Give us water, and we shall take care of happiness! That is how the river Đetinja sprang from the mountain peak - the river that never ran dry and so people built water-mills on it.

 Kada su se ljudi naselili u planini Jadovo jednog jutra pojavila se Vila i zapitala: Hoćete li da vam udelim vodu ili sreću? Ljudi su razmislili i odgovorili: Daj nam vodu, a sreću ćemo već sami pronaći! Tako je iz samoga vrha planine potekla reka Đetinja, koja nikada ne presušuje, a ljudi su izgradili vodenice.

In early May of this year, I spent seven days in the old German town Konstanz on Lake Boden. My well-intentioned hosts organized meals in national restaurants –Greek, Turkish and Italian. I asked them to take me just once to a restaurant with the
local cuisine. To my great surprise, they told me there was no such restaurant in the town.
